Assemble is a pioneering AI platform dedicated to transforming healthcare leadership. By automating administrative tasks, streamlining workflows, and enhancing team collaboration, the company aims to elevate patient care significantly. Working closely with nursing and operations leaders, Assemble seeks to modernize healthcare team coordination and decision-making processes.
Assemble is on the lookout for a Lead Product Designer to take charge of the end-to-end experience for both their web application and an upcoming mobile app. Serving as the backbone of the design team, this position is crucial for setting high standards for product quality, creating a design system from scratch, and partnering closely with product and engineering teams to deliver quickly in a high-ambiguity environment.
In this role, the Lead Product Designer will be responsible for several key areas:
Own the product experience: Manage the complete user journey for the web app and future mobile app, from initial discovery through to the final shipped product.
Design complex workflows: Create end-to-end flows that encompass complex productivity tasks such as task management, collaboration, data automation, analytics, and more.
Develop a design system: Establish and evolve Assemble's design system to support rapid and high-quality shipping of features.
Prototype tools: Utilize modern AI tools like Cursor and Bolt to explore interactions, flows, and create lightweight coded prototypes.
Cross-collaborative efforts: Work in close partnership with product management and engineering to define problems, devise specifications, and adapt quickly based on real-world usage feedback.
Lean discovery methods: Conduct user interviews, lightweight usability tests, and rapid experiments to validate ideas effectively.
Champion UX quality: Ensure high standards for craft and user experience while accelerating the shipping process typical in startup environments.
Lay foundation for a design team: As the first designer, develop processes, rituals, and documentation that can serve as a blueprint for future team members.
Ideal candidates should be deeply mission-driven, particularly motivated to enhance how healthcare functions for its leaders. Key skills and qualifications include:
Experience in product design: Typically 5-8 years of demonstrated experience with a solid portfolio showcasing impactful work in productivity software.
Simplifying complexity: Proficiency in turning intricate, multi-step workflows into intuitive and delightful experiences.
Design system contribution: Past experience developing or contributing to design systems, including Figma libraries, tokens, and standards.
Proficient in UI processes: Ability to work fluidly from problem definition to polished user interfaces, encompassing strategy, information architecture, interaction design, visual design, and prototyping.
Hands-on with modern AI tools: Familiarity with tools like Cursor or Bolt for efficient exploration and prototyping.
Ability to navigate ambiguity: Comfort working in environments with vague problem spaces and shifting priorities, thriving amidst fast iteration cycles.
Product sense: Insightful in evaluating impact, trade-offs, and user outcomes rather than focusing solely on visual aesthetics.
Communication skills: Strong ability to articulate design decisions to both technical and non-technical teammates clearly.
Although not mandatory, the following are advantageous:
Design experience specifically for healthcare, frontline workforces, or operational tools.
Familiarity with mobile design patterns, particularly for iOS and Android, and design components using tools like Shadcn.
Experience in an early-stage design role or at a seed/Series A startup would be a plus.
Assemble promotes a fast-paced and iterative approach to shipping products, favoring small-scale, frequent releases while learning from actual usage data. They value low-ego collaboration, believing that good ideas can emerge from anyone within the team. As the first designer, this position offers a unique opportunity to help define how design is integrated within the Assemble organization. Communication is hybrid, balancing asynchronous documentation with regular real-time design sessions.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Lead Product Designer at Assemble. The role promises considerable responsibility, given that the hire will be the first in such a capacity, fostering both leadership and innovation in designing healthcare solutions. If you have the necessary experience and are enthusiastic about making a tangible impact in the healthcare sector, this is the perfect position for you.
