Job Description

As a Data Engineer at Northbeam, you will collaborate with a dynamic cross-functional team—including product managers, product engineers, and business leaders—to translate customers’ feedback into scalable data pipelines and products. In the dynamic direct-to-consumer (DTC) sector, marketing attribution involves developing and refining a complex maze of transformations within an intricate network of touchpoints to ensure smooth system performance. The system relies on extensive data gathered from various advertising platforms and order management systems, such as Shopify and Amazon, as well as real-time events collected as customers navigate online stores.

Success in this role requires curiosity, relevant experience, and a desire to build data pipelines and applications at scale. As part of your duties, you will collaborate with customers, product managers, engineers, and customer support teams to develop and iterate high-value solutions. Your expertise will drive the long-term technical strategy through scalable architecture and best practices. Responsibilities include building and maintaining data ingestion pathways through APIs, file processing, and configurable inputs, and integrating with machine learning and data science systems to deliver insights to customers.

The role also encompasses maintaining and scaling the platform infrastructure while writing technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

About You

Northbeam is seeking a candidate with a solid understanding of the data processing needs of both real-time and batch systems for transactional and analytical processing. Proficiency in SQL, Java, Scala, Spark, and Python is required, alongside experience in designing and deploying high-performance systems with reliable monitoring and logging practices. A background in data pipeline orchestration tools and practices is essential.

Prospective candidates should possess six to eight or more years of experience. While not mandatory, familiarity with data engineering solutions such as Bigquery, Airflow, dbt, Kafka, and Pinot, or experience in marketing, e-commerce, or ad-tech, is advantageous. Experience with cloud infrastructure like Google Cloud Platform, Azure, or AWS, and a desire to utilize infrastructure-as-code, is beneficial.

Values

At Northbeam, we embody a growth mindset, valuing continuous learning and development. Our customer-focused approach aims to ensure satisfaction with our products. We encourage an ownership mentality where team members think and act as business owners. Practicing radical candor, we maintain transparency and provide direct feedback to one another.

Benefits

Northbeam offers a comprehensive benefits package, including an equity package, a generous base salary, and healthcare benefits encompassing medical, dental, and vision coverage. For team cohesion and wider engagement, you'll have opportunities to travel and meet with the team. Additionally, we offer a flexible paid time off policy and 12 company-paid holidays to ensure a healthy work-life balance.
