Job Role

The Principal Systems Architect will directly support BlackSky's Chief Technology Office. The position is crucial for advancing BlackSky’s reputation as a leader in real-time geospatial intelligence. This role involves:

  • Architecting and managing requirements for both As-Is and Target architectures.
  • Distilling unified requirements and designs across multiple stakeholders including major clients, product roadmaps, and strategic visions.
  • Ensuring thorough documentation and effective communication among team members and stakeholders.

In this hands-on role, you'll engage with teams to evolve existing systems and align them with future demands and technology strategies. The top candidate will demonstrate an ability to navigate complex systems and stakeholder interactions with ease. This role reports directly to the VP of Product Architecture.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities for the Principal Systems Architect include:

  • Architecting designs and managing requirements for current and target architectures within the organization’s ground segment.
  • Communicating effectively with both internal teams and external clients to translate system requirements into engineering specifications.
  • Collaborating with engineers and product teams to align system capabilities with development plans.
  • Liaising between technical and non-technical departments, ensuring smooth project execution and management.
  • Evaluating impacts of system changes and managing documentation related to system architecture.
  • Developing models and data analyses to inform the decision-making process.

Required Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates should have:

  • A minimum of 12 years of related work experience, including 5 years in systems architecture or engineering.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field.
  • Experience in architecting complex software systems, including software API development and system integration.
  • Familiarity with Software Engineering best practices, Agile methodologies, and lifecycle management tools like JIRA and Git.
  • Strong communication skills to relay technical concepts to varied audiences.

Candidates eligible for the role will need to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Preferred Qualifications

Although not required, the following attributes are preferred:

  • 15 years of related work experience, with at least 5 years in the applicable fields.
  • Familiarity with the geospatial domain, particularly regarding satellite systems and AI/ML technologies.
  • Previous experience as a software engineer, particularly in production-ready systems.

Salary and Benefits

The anticipated base salary for candidates located in Seattle, WA is between $180,000 and $220,000 per annum. The final compensation will wade through various factors like experience and educational qualifications.
