The core responsibility of the Principal Medical Writer is to ensure that all developed content is not only evidence-based but also of the highest editorial quality. This position comes with the support of a Scientific Director or Senior Scientific Director and may involve acting as the scientific team lead. This entails providing expertise and insights by keeping abreast of current research and market dynamics affecting the therapeutic area and client brands.
Writes, reviews, and oversees contributions from other team members involved in content creation. This includes directions for Medical Writers, editors, and graphic artists to fulfill client needs and adhere to Precision AQ standards.
Analyzes and interprets complex medical documents. This role also includes reviewing analyses conducted by junior team members to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Keeps knowledge current through literature searches concerning competitor products, drugs under development, and other strategic issues pertaining to assigned therapeutic areas. This ensures the information provided is up-to-date and clinically relevant.
May attend medical conferences to evaluate competitor activities and market opportunities for client products.
Provides scientific and strategic insights to supporting writers, editors, and additional team members. This also includes overseeing the regulatory review process for projects within client teams, ensuring consistency in regulatory processes across teams.
Engages in strategic business development planning as needed.
Identifies freelance resource needs, supports the recruitment, and continuously manages freelance assistance as necessary, while coordinating with the leadership team.
Manages timelines and sets expectations throughout the content development process to ensure deliverables are met on time.
Provides assistance in strategic planning for business development.
Identifies opportunities for new business on existing accounts and participates in business development initiatives and presentations.
The ideal candidate should possess extensive experience in Medical Writing, ideally obtained from an agency, pharmaceutical company, or CRO environment. Key experiences include:
Work within therapeutic areas such as Oncology, Influenza, Rare Diseases, Neurology, or Immunology.
Demonstrable experience crafting written works aimed at external audiences (for example, at symposia, standalone reports, or scientific communication platforms).
Impeccable written and verbal communication skills are essential for this position.
Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, ready to take ownership of projects.
Superior time management skills are required to meet demanding deadlines.
Experience in a client-facing environment and ability to interact professionally is critical.
