Job Description

The Founding Engineer position encompasses a variety of responsibilities that require a hands-on approach with significant product and cultural ownership. As the company expands, they require an engineer who can lead technical initiatives across a broad spectrum of their tech stack, including the following:

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure as Code: Manage end-to-end processes using Terraform and AWS, ensuring effective deployments and observability.

  • Data Pipelines: Design and enhance data ingestion pipelines for large exports, utilizing tools like QGIS and PostGIS.

  • Core Product Features: Collaborate with teams to deliver essential features across various platforms, including NestJS for backend services, React for web applications, and React Native for mobile app development.

  • Technical Leadership: Act as a pragmatic and strategic technical voice within a small team where each engineer’s input significantly shapes the operation.

Technology Stack

Memora utilizes a diverse and innovative tech stack that includes:

  • Backend: NestJS, TypeScript, MikroORM, PostgreSQL, PostGIS.
  • Frontend: React, TanStack Query, MapLibre, and PMTiles.
  • Mobile: React Native and Expo.
  • Infrastructure: AWS services such as ECS Fargate, RDS, S3, CloudFront, SNS, and the use of Terraform for infrastructure management.
  • Observability: Tools like Grafana Cloud and Sentry for monitoring and issue resolution.
  • Geospatial Tools: QGIS and similar technologies for handling geographic data.

Required Skills

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years in building production software, ideally with prior experience at a growth startup.

  • Full Stack Development: Proficiency in using TypeScript across both backend and React-based frontends.

  • Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge: Hands-on knowledge of AWS and experience in managing Terraform stacks.

  • Database Design: Solid understanding of relational databases, including schema design and query optimization.

  • Team Dynamics Adaptability: Ability to work autonomously in small teams and handle project scoping, documentation, and troubleshooting without relying on established playbooks.

Preferred Skills may include experience with React Native, PostGIS, and compliance-sensitive data management.
