Overview

The Product Data and Labeling Specialist position at Hire Overseas offers a unique opportunity to work remotely while managing essential aspects of product data and labeling within a food distribution context. This role primarily focuses on ensuring the accuracy, structure, and flow of product data, which is pivotal for operations, compliance, and supply chain management. Given its importance in maintaining product standards, this position is crucial for ensuring that all product information, barcodes, and packaging specifications are accurate and ready for market.

Role Responsibilities

As a Product Data and Labeling Specialist, you will primarily be involved in the following areas:

Product Data and Barcoding Management

You will own and maintain product barcoding systems following standards such as UPC, EAN, and GS1. This will involve managing product data effectively—your familiarity or experience with GDSN and using GDSN-128 is essential. You need to ensure product identifiers are accurate and correctly aligned across internal and customer systems while supporting new item setups, product changes, and line extensions.

Labeling and Packaging Control

In this role, you will review, approve, and control all product labels and carton markings before production. Ensuring that these labels are accurate, consistent, and compliant with both internal standards and customer requirements will be vital. This will require maintaining version control for all labels and coordinating packaging updates with suppliers and stakeholders.

Specification Documentation

Creating, updating, and maintaining detailed product specification sheets will be a key responsibility. Your specifications must accurately reflect current formulations, packaging, coding, and any regulatory requirements. Acting as the source of truth for product specifications across teams and partners is essential, so clear communication and organization skills will be a must.

Cross-Functional Coordination

You will closely work with suppliers to collect and validate product data and artwork while partnering with internal operations, quality, and supply chain teams to maintain data integrity. Collaborating with creative partners for private label packaging updates and responding to customer inquiries and audits related to labeling will also be expected.

Process and Quality Support

Your role will involve maintaining organized documentation for all product data and labeling materials. You will provide support for audits and compliance checks related to product information and actively identify gaps or inconsistencies within processes, proactively recommending improvements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you should possess the following skills and experience:

  • 3 to 6+ years of experience in product data management, labeling, or packaging roles.
  • A strong working knowledge of GS1 standards along with experience in utilizing GDSN.
  • Familiarity with GDSN-128 barcoding protocols and experience in creating product specification sheets.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, enabling you to manage multiple product updates and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools and experience with product data or specification systems.

Nice to Have

Although not mandatory, having the following experiences can be beneficial:

  • Experience in food, Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), or import and distribution environments.
  • Familiarity with food labeling regulations and customer compliance requirements.
  • Background working with global suppliers or involved in private label programs.
