Overview

Fixa is looking for a Lead Engineer (Full-Stack) to spearhead the redevelopment of their SaaS platform. This role is critical in leading the development of backend APIs, web applications, mobile applications, and managing the overall infrastructure. As a key player in this transition, you will also work alongside a dedicated UI/UX designer, a CTO, and other technical advisors to build a system that is both scalable and robust.

The Lead Engineer will initially work independently to fast-track an MVP’s development, with future opportunities to recruit and manage a growth-oriented development team.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development In this position, you’ll design and develop a scalable REST API with one of the established frameworks: Laravel (PHP), FastAPI (Python), or Node.js (using Express.js or NestJS). Beyond just APIs, you will be responsible for implementing essential modules for user management, worker onboarding, attendance tracking, payroll processing, and various communication tools. It’s vital that the API can support multiple outputs, including a web application, mobile apps, and a USSD interface.

Frontend Development On the frontend side, your role will include developing a responsive web application utilizing either React or Vue.js. Collaborating with the UI/UX designer, you will ensure that user-friendly interfaces are implemented for both customer-facing and admin applications.

Infrastructure and DevOps Another major aspect of your role is to deploy the applications on cloud platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure, as well as set up CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.

Team Collaboration You’ll work closely with stakeholders to comprehend project requirements and convert them into actionable technical specifications. In addition, you’ll be responsible for leading code reviews and ensuring adherence to best practices for both code quality and security.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in software development, particularly in full-stack applications.
• Expertise with at least one of the mentioned backend frameworks: Laravel, FastAPI, or Node.js.
• Proficiency in front-end technologies such as React or Vue.js.
• Familiarity with SQL databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL and in-depth knowledge of API design.
• Outstanding problem-solving abilities coupled with exemplary attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills are a must, as collaboration in a remote setup will be frequent.

Preferred Skills

• Prior experience in building HR/Payroll platforms.
• Involvement in the development of Payment platforms.
• Familiarity with developing USSD applications.
• Knowledge or experience in DevOps practices and cloud infrastructure.
• Understanding of biometric or IoT integrations.
• Experience with mobile app development for both iOS and Android platforms.
• Past experience in creating platforms catering to diverse and underserved demographics.
