Role Responsibilities

The Documentation Engineer will own and manage the documentation process from start to finish. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining documentation standards and templates, ensuring consistency and clarity across all technical content.

  • Writing, editing, and structuring technical documentation, ensuring it is accurate and accessible to both technical and non-technical users.

  • Managing a documentation backlog that prioritizes updates based on product releases and the needs of clients.

  • Identifying documentation gaps by reviewing feature releases, customer queries, and feedback from internal teams.

  • Collaborating with Product Managers, Engineers, and Customer Support to extract crucial technical details and translate them into clear documentation.

  • Validating and extending documentation for JSON files, API documentation, and code snippets.

  • Testing API endpoints to ensure accurate and functional documentation.

  • Researching and implementing AI-assisted solutions to streamline and automate documentation processes.

  • Exploring and suggesting appropriate documentation tools such as Notion, Swagger, Markdown, GitHub, and Readme.io.

  • Editing release notes and contributing to customer enablement resources like FAQs and knowledge base articles.

Required Skills

Candidates for the Documentation Engineer role must demonstrate:

  • Proven experience as a Technical Writer or in a similar position, with a preference for experience in a SaaS or technical context.

  • The ability to independently write technical documentation from scratch and keep it consistently updated.

  • Technical proficiency in reading and validating Python code snippets, even if coding experience is not strictly required.

  • Experience with API documentation, JSON files, and testing APIs using tools like Postman and Swagger/OpenAPI.
