The position of Business Intelligence Analyst with Joblinxsapp is a long-term contract role assigned to the Government of Alberta's Technology and Innovation division. Project Details

The Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) is an important project led by the Government of Alberta's Environment and Protected Areas (EPA). The goal of DRAS is to create a single digital platform that supports the complete regulatory lifecycle, from application and authorization to compliance monitoring and closure. This initiative will help manage the increasing volume and complexity of data relevant to environmental and natural resource regulations. Thus, the role of the Business Intelligence Analyst is crucial for providing data-driven insights that inform operational and strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities

The Business Intelligence Analyst will hold a variety of key responsibilities that include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining advanced dashboards, scorecards, and visual analytics using Microsoft Power BI.
  • Building and optimizing enterprise reporting solutions with Power BI, DAX, and Power Query.
  • Developing and maintaining data models, semantic models, and ETL processes.
  • Integrating Power BI solutions with Azure-based data platforms and on-premises data sources.
  • Collaborating with business stakeholders, data architects, and data engineers to comprehend reporting requirements and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Translating business requirements into scalable analytical and reporting solutions.
  • Conducting data analysis to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and business opportunities.
  • Presenting analytical findings to business stakeholders and executives.
  • Implementing and maintaining Power BI Service features, including scheduled refreshes, alerts, and workspace management.
  • Configuring Row-Level Security (RLS), incremental refresh, and performance optimization strategies.
  • Ensuring data quality, consistency, governance, and security compliance.
  • Providing end-user support, training, and documentation.
  • Leveraging AI-assisted analytics tools to automate insights generation and enhance reporting capabilities.

The analyst may also perform other related duties as assigned.

Mandatory Qualifications

To be eligible for the Business Intelligence Analyst position, candidates must meet the following mandatory qualifications:

  • Education: A post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in translating business requirements into analytical and reporting solutions.
    • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with designing and developing advanced Power BI dashboards and reports.
    • At least 5 years of experience using SQL for querying, data transformation, and reporting.
    • 5 years of experience working with large and complex datasets.
    • 5 years of experience with developing complex DAX measures, calculated columns, and data models.
    • 4 years of experience implementing Power BI Service capabilities.
    • 4 years of experience designing business intelligence and analytics solutions.
    • 4 years of experience utilizing advanced data visualization techniques.
    • Strong experience with Azure data platforms and enterprise reporting environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following qualifications will be at an advantage:

  • Experience with source code control and version management practices.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted analytics tools and technologies.
  • Experience with Databricks Medallion Architecture and building data products using Azure Synapse Analytics.
  • Familiarity with Government of Alberta data environments and datasets.

Work Arrangement

This position requires remote work within Canada. Candidates must supply their own computer and other necessary equipment. A Windows operating system is preferred to ensure compatibility with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). Additionally, candidates should be prepared for occasional onsite meetings in Edmonton, approximately 3 to 4 times annually as needed. It is important to note that travel, accommodation, relocation, and related expenses will not be reimbursed by the employer.

Security Requirements

Before the project commences, candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check. Additionally, successful candidates will be required to complete mandatory training for the Government of Alberta, which includes Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) and Security Awareness Training, along with other onboarding courses.
