The Building Maintenance Specialist position encompasses responsibilities primarily related to the operation and maintenance of building systems within a 227,000 square foot facility. The ideal candidate will be tasked with performing safe and efficient operations across various essential building functions, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general preventative maintenance tasks. This role is crucial in ensuring that the facilities are not only operational but also safe and secure for all occupants.
In this role, the Building Maintenance Specialist will undertake several pivotal tasks, including but not limited to:
Responding to hot or cold calls, troubleshooting problems, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Performing various electrical tasks, such as safely replacing lighting, ballasts, lamps, and LED drivers.
Carrying out plumbing tasks, including resolving issues with sinks and toilets, as well as unclogging pipes.
Completing basic carpentry projects which may include minor construction work, painting, and repairs.
Modifying and repairing minor furniture as necessary.
Regularly inspecting facilities for safety, security, cleaning, and general maintenance requirements.
Documenting monthly preventative maintenance tasks and conducting emergency on-call services as required.
Collaborating with co-workers, supervisors, and customers to maintain a healthy working relationship and environment.
To be considered for the Building Maintenance Specialist position, candidates should meet the following criteria:
Minimum of 2 years of related experience in building maintenance or a similar role.
An associate’s degree in HVAC or equivalent job experience is preferred, as is 3-5 years of facilities or maintenance-related experience.
Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel to manage documentation and facilitate communication.
Basic competency in reading wiring schematics and understanding electromechanical controls.
A good mechanical aptitude and a basic math competency to perform necessary calculations and measurements.
Experience with power tools such as saws, drills, sanders, and grinders is necessary for completing various tasks effectively.
A self-starter attitude is ideal, with the ability to perform tasks independently or with minimal assistance.
The role involves frequent operation of computers and other office machinery, periodic movement within office environments, and regular communication with both customers and team members. A high level of safety compliance will be expected, as well as adherence to workplace policies, particularly concerning safety.
